Theo visits the DiMera mansion to check in on his mom. EJ’s hopeful that his visits will speed her recovery along, so he takes Theo down to see Lexie. He holds her hand and talks to her about his memories of her from long, long ago.
And as he tells her how she was always there for him, she wakes up! To tell Theo they’re both still asleep… (Sigh. Can we please move this forward?!) Theo promises he’ll keep coming back every day until she opens her eyes for real.
A Truce Between Gwen and Dimitri?
Gwen’s in a panic trying to call Leo, only for Dimitri to answer. Leo’s asleep, so Dimitri taunts his wife about his passionate night with Leo until she screams and hangs up. Before a cheerful EJ can get gloat too much, Gwen yells that Leo and Dimitri are “shagging again” and rushes off to throw a fit.
Leo, meanwhile, wakes, having not shagged Dimitri at all. They get all mushy as Dimitri tells Leo again that he loves him. But just as they share a touching moment and kiss, Gwen starts banging on the door.
“You’re cheating on me. With Leo. Again!” (Um, you reunited them, Gwen.) The married-on-paper couple fling accusations at each other until Leo steps in and suggests they all stop wasting energy on this fighting and start over. That doesn’t work. But Leo persists with Dimitri!
“If you care about me the way that you say you do, you will give up this fight.” Well… that was only slightly emotionally manipulative, but Dimitri — launching a few more jabs at Gwen — agrees to a divorce, uncontested.
Once Gwen’s gone to celebrate, Dimitri excitedly asks what the real plan is, but Leo’s shockingly, utterly sincere. Gwen did bad things, but so have they. He lost his best bestie of all time because of betraying her. So Dimitri accepts the decision, so they can move on together. (OK, what’s his real plan?)
Will Chanel Support Johnny?
It’s time for Chanel and Johnny to talk about DiMera. Chanel’s thought it over and doesn’t want him to turn his back on his family. She’ll back Johnny as CEO if he wants — with clear rules in place.
No illegal or immoral company shenanigans, and nothing that could hurt their family. Johnny’s A-OK with that, and EJ can shove it if he tries anything funny.
Will EJ Betray Johnny?
Theo comes back upstairs, promising to come back every day, timing it just as Johnny walks in, all suspicious! Theo sees himself out fast so Johnny and his dad can talk. So they do.
Johnny gives his dad his/Chanel’s terms, and EJ claims he just wants Johnny to succeed, so whatever terms, EJ will support him and his children. “And Chanel?” Johnny demands. Of course! EJ lays on the unctuous apologies again for what he did and completely understands if Johnny can never fully trust him. He’s so sorry. Whatever Johnny wants!
Will Paulina and Theo Fess Up?
Off in the square, Paulina’s stunned, nay, aghast to hear from Chanel that Theo stepped down. And she’s horrified to learn that Chanel’s backing Johnny as DiMera CEO! Paulina’s certain that EJ will destroy everything and everyone he touches.
Abe and Theo show up before Chanel can get to the bottom of her mom’s anger, so she takes Trey and leaves them to talk — about Theo leaving DiMera! Abe plays it cool, clearly delighted, but Paulina’s suspicious. Theo says he just concluded that stepping down was what was right in the face of Abe’s opposition and knowing his mom would hate it. Paulina’s super uncomfortable.
In the Show’s Final Moments
Gwen gets home in a delightful mood, to find EJ feeling the same. EJ pours her a fancy drink after she tells him about the Dimitri win, and he toasts to his own “personal triumph” and their “well-deserved victories.” The gloating is strong in these two!
Abe goes to Sweet Bits for some celebratory pastries and Paulina, clearly suspicious, tries finding out why Theo’s thinking about his mother all of a sudden. But neither will tip their cards as they dance around Lexie. Abe, meanwhile, calls a grinning EJ to thank him for getting Theo to quit — however he did it! Johnny gets home to let Chanel know it’s all a go and EJ got the message.
