Young & Restless Has a New Billy… and It’s the Last Person You’d *Ever* Expect

We’re well used to Billy being a screw-up on Young & Restless. It’s practically his default setting, but with the Abbott set to turn over a new leaf, there’s a new ‘Billy’ in town… and it’s the last person any of us would have expected!

In recent years, Billy’s M.O. has been to make a mess of his life in a bid to hang onto/get back Chancellor, whilst obsessing over revenge on those who have wronged him, typically Adam or Victor. But he insists he’s done with all of that and claims to be heading into his “healing” era as he takes a leap of faith across the pond to make peace with his mother, Jill.

Before there was even time to contemplate if Billy’s transformation would leave a void, the most unexpected person on the canvas stepped in to fill his considerable shoes. We found out Lily, of all people, went to extremes to get Chancellor back and to take revenge on Cane, hurting her loved ones in the process. A bang-on Billy impression if there ever was one!

But as we said, Neil’s daughter is the last person we’d expect to do such a thing, if only because she holds everyone else to such a high standard. It’s a tad hypocritical to lash out at Cane for going off and becoming a billionaire under an assumed name and then turn around and let him believe she and their children were in mortal danger.

If it was Lily’s misguided attempt to hurt Ashby as much as he supposedly hurt her, we could almost understand, but the fact that she agreed to participate in Victor’s scheme as a means of getting Chancellor back truly gives us ‘Billy’ vibes.

Lily claimed to be happy working side-by-side with Devon and Nate at Winters, but she’s obviously still secretly hungered to get her hooks back into Chancellor. It’s the very same desire that caused the Abbott’s downfall time and again.

The fallout, with Cane cutting Lily out of his life, sets them back to square one, but this time on a more even playing field. Lily’s down off her high horse now that they’ve both made mistakes. Will he forgive her? Of course, but this will drag it out.

As for Devon and Nate, they’re gonna be pissed that she not only allowed them to fear for her and the twins’ lives (particularly galling in light of Dom actually being kidnapped), but that she did it, in part, to get Chancellor back after claiming she’d moved on from that.

Worse still, it may have all been for naught. Lily, learning exactly nothing from her last experience with Victor, once again failed to get anything in writing, leaving her to twist in the wind while he decides whether he’ll actually hand it over or not, and when. Victor may be planning to hold up his end of the bargain at this point, but if he reconciles with Nikki, we’re gonna bet he’ll go back on his word and put his wife back in charge. Victor 2, Lily 0.

Here’s hoping Lily learns from her screw-up faster than Billy did… watching her go after Chancellor for years just might do us in. Ah well, maybe if she does get it back she can hire Billy. They’ll definitely understand each other better now!
