Look, we know the big Friday cliffhanger on Days of Our Lives was Lexie waking up and making her way into the mansion, just as her family toasted to their dead patriarch, Stefano. And we’ll readily admit, it was a good one. But her appearance was not the biggest surprise for us at Stefano’s will reading. Instead, it was Harold! He lives!

Well, we knew he lived since he’s always answering the door, but we haven’t seen him in years. Eight years to be exact! It’s been so long since a Harold sighting that it’s become something of a joke amongst fans that the Kiriakis and DiMera servants are invisible, always dutifully doing their jobs (except for when Harold misses the doorbell) but never, ever seen.

Days Harold sits behind Abe at Stefano's will reading

That all changed when Julian Barnes made his return as faithful DiMera manservant Harold, receiving his just reward from Stefano: a home in Toledo (his favorite city apparently), and a trust to care for him should he ever decide to retire. Of course, with how long he’s been with the family, we aren’t sure retirement is in the cards for him! Barnes played Harold off and on from 2009 to 2018 before turning into the “ghostly” presence always on hand just offscreen.

Clearly, he’s still more than capable of answering the door, especially since he did it twice during the will reading! Granted, we aren’t quite sure what his other duties are, but getting the door seems to be the most important one! That and packing the bags of whomever is getting kicked out of the DiMera mansion this week.

Granted, this would be a good time for him to retire,  now that he has the means and the home for it. But if there’s anything we learned about the DiMera employees and servants, it’s that they’re loyal to a fault!

Welcome back, Harold! Whether you’re staying or retiring, it’s nice to see such an oft-mentioned face!
