At the Club, Danny surprises an elated Christine with his early return and an expensive scarf. They gush and kiss until she announces she has a big surprise of her own.
Christine reveals she has been offered the D.A. job in town. Danny’s thrilled for her, but she’s not sure she’ll accept. She likes being the semi-retired wife of a rock star. Danny’s sure they can find a solution. After he promises to cut back on overseas concerts, they start kissing again.
Daniel arrives and Danny tells him he was missed overseas. Daniel apologizes but he didn’t want to go without Tessa. Talk turns to Devon’s challenge of Mariah’s plea deal, and Christine reports that he’s dug in. He doesn’t think she’s being punished enough.
Throwdown
At the outdoor café, Devon confronts Abby about avoiding him. Abby’s not keen to have a conversation. Devon complains about her not reacting to his news about having a new family member. Abby tries to downplay it, but he knows she’s avoiding him over Mariah.
They sit and argue about him trying to get Mariah’s plea deal reversed without consulting her. Abby accuses him of trying to force Mariah so far off the rails, they have no choice but to put her in jail. Devon asks if that would be so terrible. Abby doesn’t know who he is right now. Devon can’t fathom why she wants to let Mariah off the hook. They argue heatedly and Devon complains his wife has more understanding for their son’s kidnapper than for him.
Hammer Time
At the office, Lauren tells Phyllis about Michael’s visit. Phyllis hopes he’s put Victor in the rearview mirror. At that very minute, however, Michael walks into the ranch, having been summoned by Victor. The Mustache wants him to know that he plans to force Phyllis to return Newman Enterprises. The plan is in action right now.
Victoria explains to Michael that they’ve paid off the high-level execs, who will walk out in a matter of days. Michael refers to it as Summers Conglomerate and Victor chastises him. The Mustache tells his former lawyer that Phyllis’ second mistake was giving him control of Chancellor… he’ll use that against her.
It turns out that Victor’s got his hands on some new AI that will prove Phyllis’ illegal activities against him via emails between her, Cane, and Billy Boy Abbott. Victoria adds that it will be foolproof. Victor will tell her to hand Newman over in exchange for letting her go, unscathed.
Michael fears Victor will lose control of the AI, and reminds him how it backfired on Cane. Victoria and Victor shrug off his concerns. Victor only told him to spare his wife unnecessary pain. Michael warns the Mustache that the manufactured evidence had better not involve Lauren. Victor barks at him to tell her to resign.
At the office, a mystified Phyllis tells Lauren that all the department heads are resigning. They quickly realize this has Victor Newman written all over it. Phyllis is sure they can replace the execs. Lauren warns there may be another strike. Phyllis vows no one will take this away from her. She wants Lauren to convince Michael to come on board as head of legal. Lauren’s doubtful, but Phyllis tells her to do whatever it takes to get him there.
Back at the ranch, Michael has left and Victoria tells her dad it was nice of him to give the lawyer a warning. Victor shrugs that Lauren made the mistake, Michael did not. Victoria’s proud of him. She broaches the topic of reconciling with her mother, but Victor declares that they have to move on.
Red Flags
At the Club, Michael greets Danny, Christine, and Daniel. It turns out he recommended Chris for the D.A. job. Talk turns to Phyllis and Daniel says he’s through with her. Christine can’t understand why Lauren is working with her. This can’t possibly end well.
Lauren arrives and Michael pulls her off to a table. Daniel asks Christine if she were D.A., would she have any pull when it comes to reversing Mariah’s plea bargain? Chris tells him that will be decided by a panel of judges… she doesn’t think Devon has a chance. Daniel hopes she won’t find out and freak out. Chris wonders if that’s his motive. Anger and fear changes people.
Across the room, Michael warns Lauren that Summers Conglomerate is going down. At that very moment at Summers Conglomerate, Phyllis curses Victor as the resignations pour in relentlessly.
Back in the Club, Michael tells Lauren he’ll give her the details, but she can’t get in deeper by warning Phyllis.
The Final Scenes
At the outdoor café, Abby tells Devon he’s making this all about him. Mariah isn’t just the woman who took their son… she gave him their son. She’s their friend. Devon scoffs that maybe they should invite her to dinner. Abby sneers that he’s being a jerk right now. As Daniel arrives, Devon storms off.
Daniel asks Abby what’s going on. Why is Devon still trying to punish Mariah? She knows it’s not right, but he won’t listen. “I’ve never seen him like this before.”
At the ranch, Victoria hopes her parents can solve their issues. Talk turns to Adam and Nick. They haven’t heard from them. Victoria thinks they’ll have to believe they can handle their business. Victor mutters about them getting their business back.
At the Club, Lauren wants the bad news. Michael informs her that by the end of the week, Summers Conglomerate will cease to exist. Phyllis will lose control of it… and what’s left of her mind.
In her office, Phyllis paces, on the phone making an offer. It’s refused and she slams down the phone. Picking up a pen, she crosses the last name off of her list of possible replacement execs.
